10 Things I Don't Do Anymore Human Design

Before I understood how my energy works, I spent a lot of time wondering why I wasn’t more like everyone else.

Why did certain things seem so easy for other people but leave me exhausted? Why did I keep saying yes when I really wanted to say no? Why did I feel like I needed to keep going when my body was telling me to stop?

I thought something was wrong with me.

Now I understand that nothing was wrong with me. I simply wasn’t living in a way that worked with my energy.

Here are 10 things I don’t do anymore now that I understand how my energy works:

1. Hosting Big Gatherings

I used to think something was wrong with me because I didn’t want to host big gatherings. Everyone else seemed to be doing it, so what was the big deal?

So I did it anyway.

And every time, I was exhausted and drained afterward.

I’ve learned that I don’t have to do something just because it seems like everyone else is doing it. Now I host when it feels right for me—not because my mind is telling me I should or because I feel pressure to meet someone else’s expectations.

2. Forcing Connections

I used to think I needed to find relationships, initiate conversations, or make connections happen.

And more often than not, it didn’t really work out.

Now, I’m much more comfortable allowing the right connections to find me. I don’t feel the same need to force something that isn’t naturally coming together.

3. Overworking

I used to think I needed to do more.

Everyone around me seemed busy and was getting things done, so I assumed I should be doing the same.

Now I understand that more isn’t always better for me. I’ve learned to be okay with saying, enough is enough.

I look for ways to be more efficient while using less energy, and I no longer feel guilty for resting when other people are still working.

4. Putting Myself Last

I used to put everyone else’s needs ahead of my own.

I don’t do that anymore.

I make time for myself and for the things that support my well-being. And sometimes that means saying no to things so I can create the space I need.

Taking care of myself isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.

5. Making Spontaneous Decisions

Wow. This was a big one.

I got myself into a lot of trouble by responding to something in the moment, saying yes, and then realizing later that it was actually a no for me.

Now, if I notice myself falling into that pattern, I course-correct.

I’ve learned that I make better decisions when I give myself time to become clear rather than feeling like I need to decide right away.

6. Interfering With My Sleep

I used to treat sleep like something I could work around rather than something essential to my well-being.

I don’t do that anymore.

I stopped making evening appointments whenever possible, I give myself time to unwind before bed, and I’ve learned to listen to what my body needs rather than waiting until I’m completely exhausted.

My sleep is now a priority—not something I squeeze in after everything else is done.

7. Getting Caught in Silent-Treatment Traps

I used to get pulled into situations where someone would use silence or withdrawal to try to get what they wanted from me.

I don’t participate in that dynamic anymore.

That doesn’t mean it’s always comfortable. Sometimes it’s very uncomfortable.

But I’ve learned that I don’t have to fix someone else’s discomfort—or give them what they want—just to make the silence go away.

8. Holding On

I used to hold on to people and things that weren’t good for me.

I was often looking outside of myself for my sense of well-being.

I don’t do that anymore.

I’ve learned to pay attention to what my body is telling me. When something—or someone—doesn’t feel right for me, I’m much more willing to let go and move forward.

9. Explaining Myself

I used to feel like I needed to explain myself.

Why I said no. Why I made a particular decision. Why I changed my mind. Why I needed something.

I don’t feel that same need anymore.

When I understand how my energy works and how I make decisions, I can make choices that are right for me without feeling like I need everyone else to understand or agree with them.

10. Needing External Approval

This one may be at the heart of all the others.

I used to base a lot of my decisions on what I thought other people expected of me—or what I thought I should be doing.

Now, I’m learning to trust myself.

I don’t need someone else to tell me what’s right for me before I can move forward. I can listen to my own inner guidance, understand how my energy works, and make decisions that are correct for me.

And that has changed everything.

Nothing Was Wrong With Me

I’m a 4/1 Emotional Projector, and before I understood how my energy and decision-making process worked, I thought something was wrong with me because I wasn’t like everyone else.

I was burned out, exhausted, and bitter.

Everything looked fine on the outside, but it didn’t feel fine on the inside.

Learning how my energy works gave me a different way to understand myself.

I no longer feel like I have to live my life the way everyone else does. I can work with the energy I have, give myself permission to rest, and make decisions based on what is actually right for me.

I feel better. I sleep better. And I move through my life with less resistance.

That, to me, is what Human Design is really about—not becoming someone different, but understanding yourself well enough to live as yourself.
